Volunteering

To support disabled clients, help us make a difference by giving our clients the confidence to be part of an inclusive community, to feel valued and supported, building their self-esteem to be able to face life when living with a long term condition or illness and to help improve functional skills which we use in everyday life.

Volunteers need to be patient, empathetic, professional and show compassion towards gym users as well as having previous customer service skills. Although already having a Level 2 gym qualification is beneficial, it’s not essential as training can be given.

There are many benefits of becoming a volunteer:

• Ongoing training courses provided when feeling needed
• On the job experience
• Building client base and a rapport
• Rewarding/ job satisfaction
• Sense of purpose
• Free gym membership

Meet Mark and William. They joined the gym nearly 3 years ago. Mark is blind and had some health issues and he and his husband decided that using our gym would be good for both of them.

They both became much fitter and Mark made remarkable improvements. They both love the gym and also appreciated the scheme we run for people with disabilities being supported by volunteers, so much so, they became volunteers themselves and now work with two wheelchair users and help them with their workout.
