Anatomy, Physiology and  Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health, Level 2

(Leading to the YMCA Awards Level 2 Certificates in Fitness Instruction, Gym and Exercise to Music (ETM))

 

Anatomy & Physiology and the Principles of Exercise, Fitness & Health Level 2 form the underpinning knowledge required to teach exercise and fitness at Level 2.

 

Target audiences

 

This course is suitable for those who wish to become either a Gym-based or a group Exercise to Music (ETM) Instructor and who:

 

  • Wish to study the theory element of fitness instruction at their own pace online, or
  • Wish to re-cap their Level 2 Theory, or
  • Who are working towards another Level 2 qualification

 

Prerequisites

 

Candidate must be 16 years old or over. There are no other entry requirements; however, for those candidates wishing to enrol for the Exercise to Music Instruction (ETM) Certificate, it is strongly recommended that you have experience of ETM classes. If you do not have experience you should attend at least ten ETM classes before the practical course so that you are familiar with the moves.

 

Course description

 

The online course covers the theoretical elements of the following subjects:

 

Level 2 Anatomy & Physiology for Exercise:

 

  • Cardio-respiratory system
  • Bones, joints and joint actions
  • Muscles and muscle actions
  • Energy systems
  • Nervous system

 

Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health:

 

  • Components of fitness
  • Principles of fitness
  • Key exercise safety
  • Monitoring exercise intensity
  • Health benefits of exercise
  • Healthy eating

 

Candidates may study at their own pace and, when ready to take the written Theory Papers, book their Assessment online or contact Tutor Support.

Please note: the online course must be completed within 12 months.

The theory is studied online. Students are allowed 215 days to complete the online study with 12 months to complete the certificate overall from the date of enrolment.

 

Assessment procedure

 

Assessment is conducted at the YMCA in Cambridge and is in two parts:

  • Multiple choice Anatomy & Physiology Theory Paper
  • Multiple choice Principles of Exercise, Fitness & Health Theory Paper

 

Online Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise and Health Level 3

 

Advanced Exercise and Fitness Knowledge

 

This course covers the underpinning knowledge required to teach advanced training systems. It is one of the core units of all Level 3 courses and is therefore designed to be taken by individuals working towards any Level 3 qualification including Advanced Studio Instructor, Personal Trainer and Pilates or Yoga Teacher.

Please note: This module is included within the Personal Training Advanced Instruction course.

 

Prerequisites

 

Candidates must already hold a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction.

 

Course description

 

The online course covers the following subjects:

 

  • Anatomy and Physiology, Level 3
  • Cardiovascular system
  • Musculoskeletal system
  • Postural and core stability
  • Nervous system
  • Endocrine system
  • Energy systems

 

The theory is studied online. Students are allowed 215 days to complete the online study with 12 months to complete the certificate overall from the date of employment.
